A TEENAGER who helped raise £3,000 for his disabled brother by running through fire and crawling through mud under a barbed wire canopy is preparing to push himself to the limit once again.
Matt Rowden, from Kings Somborne, first tested his strength and endurance in January when he took on the notoriously gruelling Tough Guy challenge in aid of his brother's spinal bleeds charity, the William Rowden Trust.
Matt's brother, William, suffered a spinal bleed when he was eight and now needs 24-hour care. To pay for this care, his mum, Sandra Rowden, set up The William Rowden Trust in his name to raise money for William and others in his situation.
Matt, along with a team of Winchester friends, ran through fire and swam through swamps to raise money for the trust earlier this year and now he has discovered the team's fund-raising total, he has decided to put himself through it again this summer.
Matt, 18, said: "Seeing how much money we raised last time has spurred me on.
"I've heard that the summer one is quite different although I don't know if it's going to be easier! There are going to be a lot more nettles to wade through but at least it won't be cold."
Matt, a student at Peter Symonds, said he was least looking forward to the "tiger" part of the course, in which he will have to climb over a giant A-frame while trying to avoid hanging wires, which could give him an electric shock.
The teenager will be joined by a team of Winchester friends as he returns to the Tough Guy challenge.
