Zumba fuses latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness programme. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body whilst burning fat. Zumba creates a party-like atmosphere, which is less intimidating for those who are not as coordinated. You don't have to know how to dance to do Zumba.
Origin
Beto Perez, an aerobics instructor in Cali, Colombia, had forgotten his traditional dance music for a class he was teaching. Rather than cancel the class, he improvised using the salsa music that was in his gym bag. Beto integrated traditional dance steps along with the aerobic movements and called this new exercise program "Rumbacise". In 1999, Perez brought his new aerobic dance program to Miami, where he teamed with Perlman and Aghion and rebranded the class as "Zumba"
What to wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable as long as it does not restrict your movement. It is advisable to wear shoes which do not have too much grip and allow you to move easily. Trainers or dance shoes should be ok. Remember to bring plenty of water.
